Narrative:
Inbound to lga after midnight, visibility was 40 plus. Used nanci, proud arrival, briefed for lda-a to runway 22. ATC asked if I wanted river visual to runway 13. I accepted, because I was familiar and a cost savings. Rebriefed, reset runway in FMS for runway 13. Cleared for river. Traffic was mentioned at this time, but not as a factor, following traffic, reference traffic was not said. Failed to pick up though traffic was going our way. Traffic speed not said. In retrospect, we were over traffic as we proceeded up river. We slowed and put out drag. Our attention was greatly focused on speed control and turn on, because it is so easy to be high and fast. After ILS intercept, and gear down, TCASII RA commanded climb 1500 plus. First officer initiated climb, RA was resolved. Apparently, traffic had turned underneath us also. We were too high to land, so flew over airport and circled to runway 22. 1) ATC did not emphasize traffic, speed, direction, intentions. Did not say follow. 2) I would never accept this situation again. 3) workload, possibly fatigue, was factor. End of 3 day. Actual flying time at 8 hours. 4) will not accept lengthy visual approachs.

Title: ACR ASSIGNED VISUAL APCH HAS TCASII RA. CLBS AS INDICATED.
Narrative: INBOUND TO LGA AFTER MIDNIGHT, VISIBILITY WAS 40 PLUS. USED NANCI, PROUD ARR, BRIEFED FOR LDA-A TO RWY 22. ATC ASKED IF I WANTED RIVER VISUAL TO RWY 13. I ACCEPTED, BECAUSE I WAS FAMILIAR AND A COST SAVINGS. REBRIEFED, RESET RWY IN FMS FOR RWY 13. CLRED FOR RIVER. TFC WAS MENTIONED AT THIS TIME, BUT NOT AS A FACTOR, FOLLOWING TFC, REF TFC WAS NOT SAID. FAILED TO PICK UP THOUGH TFC WAS GOING OUR WAY. TFC SPD NOT SAID. IN RETROSPECT, WE WERE OVER TFC AS WE PROCEEDED UP RIVER. WE SLOWED AND PUT OUT DRAG. OUR ATTN WAS GREATLY FOCUSED ON SPD CTL AND TURN ON, BECAUSE IT IS SO EASY TO BE HIGH AND FAST. AFTER ILS INTERCEPT, AND GEAR DOWN, TCASII RA COMMANDED CLB 1500 PLUS. FO INITIATED CLB, RA WAS RESOLVED. APPARENTLY, TFC HAD TURNED UNDERNEATH US ALSO. WE WERE TOO HIGH TO LAND, SO FLEW OVER ARPT AND CIRCLED TO RWY 22. 1) ATC DID NOT EMPHASIZE TFC, SPD, DIRECTION, INTENTIONS. DID NOT SAY FOLLOW. 2) I WOULD NEVER ACCEPT THIS SITUATION AGAIN. 3) WORKLOAD, POSSIBLY FATIGUE, WAS FACTOR. END OF 3 DAY. ACTUAL FLYING TIME AT 8 HRS. 4) WILL NOT ACCEPT LENGTHY VISUAL APCHS.
