Narrative:
Had a loud nose on climb out at level 10000 ft. The flight crew noticed a rapid loss of oil quantity to pressure and shut down #2 engine. On the ground at denver, engine cowling for #2 engine had come loose and the buffeting had created the oil loss. Cowling latches for forward cowl on #2 engine may not have been latched. At denver hangar, fuel heater and strainer assembly was severely damaged. I do not know the factors affecting the hangar crew for missing the latching of forward cowl before flight. I do have a suggestion that may prevent a cowling accident by changing the wording in the pre-departure checklist cdis in the last item listed exterior general it states: check for an obvious item that the flight crew might find on a walkaround (i.e., fluid leaks, tire pressure, etc.) to be changed to: check for any obvious items that the flight crew might find on walkaround (i.e., fluid leaks, tire pressure, etc, cowling latches). (On #2 engine check latches as viewed from aft left side).

Title: WDB ENG COWLING COMES OPEN IN FLT CAUSING OIL LEAK AND FORCING ACFT TO RETURN LAND.
Narrative: HAD A LOUD NOSE ON CLBOUT AT LEVEL 10000 FT. THE FLC NOTICED A RAPID LOSS OF OIL QUANTITY TO PRESSURE AND SHUT DOWN #2 ENG. ON THE GND AT DENVER, ENG COWLING FOR #2 ENG HAD COME LOOSE AND THE BUFFETING HAD CREATED THE OIL LOSS. COWLING LATCHES FOR FORWARD COWL ON #2 ENG MAY NOT HAVE BEEN LATCHED. AT DENVER HANGAR, FUEL HEATER AND STRAINER ASSEMBLY WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED. I DO NOT KNOW THE FACTORS AFFECTING THE HANGAR CREW FOR MISSING THE LATCHING OF FORWARD COWL BEFORE FLT.
