Narrative:
Performed preflight with no abnormals remaining. After a normal start and taxi out, during takeoff roll we overheard a radio transmission stating that it appeared a part may have come off an aircraft of our type. There were no abnormal indications. After takeoff we eventually found out through our company by radio that an engine cowling had come off our aircraft. We returned to our airport for an uneventful landing. There were no abnormal indications throughout the flight. Post-flight revealed damage caused by cowling departing engine. There were no obvious reasons for this occurrence.
