Narrative:
Flight tpa to lga, jun/sun/92, approximately PM45 local, 31 NM southwest of lga. During descent to assigned altitude, at 10000 ft MSL, ATC reported traffic at 12 O'clock and 9500 MSL. We reported negative contact. Passing 10300 in descent received TCASII TA followed almost immediately by an RA (apparently from the previously called traffic). TCASII commanded a 2000 FPM climb. We climbed back to 10500 and received 'clear of conflict' from TCASII. Advised ATC of situation and altitude deviation. We never had visual contact with traffic.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ALTDEV ALT EXCURSION IN FLC PLT RESPONSE TO TCASII RA.
Narrative: FLT TPA TO LGA, JUN/SUN/92, APPROX PM45 LCL, 31 NM SW OF LGA. DURING DSCNT TO ASSIGNED ALT, AT 10000 FT MSL, ATC RPTED TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK AND 9500 MSL. WE RPTED NEGATIVE CONTACT. PASSING 10300 IN DSCNT RECEIVED TCASII TA FOLLOWED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY BY AN RA (APPARENTLY FROM THE PREVIOUSLY CALLED TFC). TCASII COMMANDED A 2000 FPM CLB. WE CLBED BACK TO 10500 AND RECEIVED 'CLR OF CONFLICT' FROM TCASII. ADVISED ATC OF SITUATION AND ALTDEV. WE NEVER HAD VISUAL CONTACT WITH TFC.
