Narrative:
First time ever flown into the bahamas. Filed IFR plan from fxe to bimini jul/xx/92. Arrived XA00Z. Departure jul/xy/92 XB30Z bimini direct fxe. No phone available anywhere on south bimini. Thought I could file from air. At 1000 ft tried to contact ZMA 118.4 -- negative contact. Contacted ZMA 133.4 at 2000 ft after many many unsuccessful attempts. Heard them talking to other aircraft. Asked for IFR plan or clearance to fxe. Was put on standby. No response. Retried again switched me to 127.0 -- asked again IFR clearance and flight plan -- put me on standby altitude 4500 ft. Came back 5 mins later told me to switch to 128.6 standby. No matter what I did, was getting nowhere. Approximately dozen unsuccessful attempts and radios were working 100 percent in airplane. I got a squawk code of 0332 10 mi out. Flew VFR to fxe, contacted customs. Prevent recurrence. More legitimate system for the occurrence. I could have not done anymore than I did other than fly to another island 100 mi or so out further. Maybe get to a phone!
