Narrative:

Cleared in visual approach to 34L, TCASII indicated conflicting traffic and evasive maneuver was required. Approach control confused complicated situation by giving a call to turn left to 280 degrees when already established on a base turn. In followup telephone conversation with approach control, it was learned that the controller used wrong call sign when giving instructions to turn to 280. Conflict was resolved by each aircraft's individual initiative to maneuver and avoid each other.
