Narrative:

We were climbing out on the loop-9 departure from lax and had just crossed the lax VOR at 10100 ft MSL. A TA appeared on our TCASII at that time and we started searching for it. There was no information on the TCASII screen, just the yellow DOT. After the TA disappeared I realized we were going to be low on the keggs restriction. We were at maximum rate of climb over lax VOR and knew that keggs was going to be tight. Before we could request altitude deletion at keggs the TA popped on the screen. We made the subsequent crossing restriction. The traffic we were searching for was never found.
