Narrative:
While on the blue ridge 3 arrival to dfw, we were cleared to cross braid (buj 230 degree radial 6 NM) at 9000 ft MSL. At the 3 NM DME 9300 ft descending we received a TA and turned right to avoid the 'RA'. At about 9700-9800 ft the RA was no longer a threat so I reintercepted the 230 degree radial and descended to 9000 ft. At the time of the RA and I pulled up immediately, I told the first officer to tell approach control what we were doing -- he in fact did so and the controller then said that there was VFR traffic. The RA occurred while in the clouds and we never saw the traffic. The traffic appeared to be at our assigned altitude and one can only speculate as to the possible consequences had I not had TCASII on board the aircraft. I reported the incident to the dfw approach control supervisor via telephone while on the ground at dfw.

Title: MLG ON STAR DSCNT HAS TCASII TA, THEN RA TO CLB NOW! RETURNS TO ASSIGNED WHEN NO LONGER A THREAT.
Narrative: WHILE ON THE BLUE RIDGE 3 ARR TO DFW, WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS BRAID (BUJ 230 DEG RADIAL 6 NM) AT 9000 FT MSL. AT THE 3 NM DME 9300 FT DSNDING WE RECEIVED A TA AND TURNED R TO AVOID THE 'RA'. AT ABOUT 9700-9800 FT THE RA WAS NO LONGER A THREAT SO I REINTERCEPTED THE 230 DEG RADIAL AND DSNDED TO 9000 FT. AT THE TIME OF THE RA AND I PULLED UP IMMEDIATELY, I TOLD THE FO TO TELL APCH CTL WHAT WE WERE DOING -- HE IN FACT DID SO AND THE CTLR THEN SAID THAT THERE WAS VFR TFC. THE RA OCCURRED WHILE IN THE CLOUDS AND WE NEVER SAW THE TFC. THE TFC APPEARED TO BE AT OUR ASSIGNED ALT AND ONE CAN ONLY SPECULATE AS TO THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES HAD I NOT HAD TCASII ON BOARD THE ACFT. I RPTED THE INCIDENT TO THE DFW APCH CTL SUPVR VIA TELEPHONE WHILE ON THE GND AT DFW.
