Narrative:
While proceeding direct shine intersection and approximately 105 mi away (west) we received a TA on traffic at 1 O'clock approximately 8 mi. No visual contact. Traffic moved to 2 O'clock, 5 mi, and was climbing into our altitude. We received an RA and voice command to 'climb!' we immediately started a climb and advised ATC of 'TCASII alert and was climbing.' still no visual contact. We climbed to approximately 23500 ft, 500 ft above assigned altitude and leveled. Traffic stopped climb approximately 500 ft below us, and passed off the right and behind. Still no visual contact. We returned to assigned altitude. Supplemental information from acn 219600: the first officer was out the window the whole time trying to get a visual. According to TCASII, the intruder passed off our right side 400-500 ft below and 1/2- 3/4 mi off our right. ATC never said he showed any target in our area and he switched us to another frequency. Very shortly thereafter.
