Narrative:
We were told about traffic departing iad at 6000 ft and 12 O'clock. We looked for that traffic but only saw 12 O'clock traffic at about 8000 ft. Approach didn't have that traffic only air carrier twin turbo at 12 O'clock and 6000. The other traffic descended and came right at us. We told controller and he said to turn to 050 degrees now. We turned off autoplt and turned over 90 degrees bank to right and simultaneously dove to avoid imminent collision. Controllers were still dumbfounded about the occurrence and it is still under investigation.
