Narrative:

On the return leg of my first solo cross country flight (from montgomery field to hemet-ryan and back), I became disoriented over lake miramar and circled there for some 15 mins before contacting montgomery tower for some assistance. It was at that point that I realized my true location and the error I had made in my navigation. On landing at montgomery, the tower advised me that approach control wanted to speak to me and left a telephone number for me to contact. I was not able to get an answer on that number and was due to leave for lax that afternoon. It was in conversation with a local pilot here in lax that I was advised to inform you of the incident to prevent any action being taken against those involved. I leave for england tomorrow morning and hope that this unfortunate incident will not count against me when I return to the united states next yr to continue my training.
