Narrative:
Vectors to final approach during heavy traffic left us too tight (2 NM) on an medium large transport inbound to 17L at dfw. To help the situation, we suggested to approach that we be allowed to maneuver away from our traffic in order to attain better separation. The controller authorized this as long as we would limit our altitude to no less than 4000 MSL. While maneuvering the vectors we were given drove us through the final approach for 17L. Meanwhile, a commuter aircraft on a different tower frequency was reassigned from runway 18 over to 17R. TCASII on our aircraft alerted us to this situation and demanded that we climb. As I did not have visual on this unexpected traffic, I initiated a climbing left turn back to our final using approximately 40 degree of bank. At no time did I observe our altitude to be below 4000 ft. Landing from this position uneventful.

Title: AN ACR MLG RESPONDED TO A TCASII CLB COMMAND IN THE TFC PATTERN AT DFW.
Narrative: VECTORS TO FINAL APCH DURING HVY TFC LEFT US TOO TIGHT (2 NM) ON AN MLG INBOUND TO 17L AT DFW. TO HELP THE SITUATION, WE SUGGESTED TO APCH THAT WE BE ALLOWED TO MANEUVER AWAY FROM OUR TFC IN ORDER TO ATTAIN BETTER SEPARATION. THE CTLR AUTHORIZED THIS AS LONG AS WE WOULD LIMIT OUR ALT TO NO LESS THAN 4000 MSL. WHILE MANEUVERING THE VECTORS WE WERE GIVEN DROVE US THROUGH THE FINAL APCH FOR 17L. MEANWHILE, A COMMUTER ACFT ON A DIFFERENT TWR FREQ WAS REASSIGNED FROM RWY 18 OVER TO 17R. TCASII ON OUR ACFT ALERTED US TO THIS SITUATION AND DEMANDED THAT WE CLB. AS I DID NOT HAVE VISUAL ON THIS UNEXPECTED TFC, I INITIATED A CLBING L TURN BACK TO OUR FINAL USING APPROX 40 DEG OF BANK. AT NO TIME DID I OBSERVE OUR ALT TO BE BELOW 4000 FT. LNDG FROM THIS POS UNEVENTFUL.
