Narrative:

On departure from lax, we were given a climb from 11000 to 33000. We working with departure control and were in a TCASII equipped aircraft. During our climb, we noted several aircraft on TCASII and one that was at 16500 and apparently paralleling our course, judging from movement on TCASII. We also acquired the aircraft visually. The controller called traffic at 2 mi and 16500 ft. We were climbing through 16000 ft. At the same time we were given a TCASII alert followed immediately by a command to descend from the TCASII. We initiated the descent as the aircraft passed directly overhead and about 400 ft above us. The controller asked if we were continuing our climb, and our response was that we were descending per TCASII, and that 'it was a perfect collision course.' we do not know why the controller waited so long to call the traffic that was heading on a converging course to us.

Title: ACR ON CLB HAS NMAC WITH SECOND ACFT. TCASII RA.

Narrative: ON DEP FROM LAX, WE WERE GIVEN A CLB FROM 11000 TO 33000. WE WORKING WITH DEP CTL AND WERE IN A TCASII EQUIPPED ACFT. DURING OUR CLB, WE NOTED SEVERAL ACFT ON TCASII AND ONE THAT WAS AT 16500 AND APPARENTLY PARALLELING OUR COURSE, JUDGING FROM MOVEMENT ON TCASII. WE ALSO ACQUIRED THE ACFT VISUALLY. THE CTLR CALLED TFC AT 2 MI AND 16500 FT. WE WERE CLBING THROUGH 16000 FT. AT THE SAME TIME WE WERE GIVEN A TCASII ALERT FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY A COMMAND TO DSND FROM THE TCASII. WE INITIATED THE DSCNT AS THE ACFT PASSED DIRECTLY OVERHEAD AND ABOUT 400 FT ABOVE US. THE CTLR ASKED IF WE WERE CONTINUING OUR CLB, AND OUR RESPONSE WAS THAT WE WERE DSNDING PER TCASII, AND THAT 'IT WAS A PERFECT COLLISION COURSE.' WE DO NOT KNOW WHY THE CTLR WAITED SO LONG TO CALL THE TFC THAT WAS HDG ON A CONVERGING COURSE TO US.
