Narrative:
409 pounds of freight put on board in cargo hold without knowledge of crew. Could have resulted in over gross takeoff and in emergency situation, caused undue, additional strain on aircraft, and revised performance. Recommend ground crew be educated regarding critical weights for aircraft. Also, checking with crew about amount of freight aircraft can carry versus passenger weights.
