Narrative:
Failed to switch to fuller tank for landing. Due to turbulence, tank unported (4 gallons remaining) causing engine stoppage. Switched to other tank but did not restart. Called mayday to alert tower, unable field. Started for emergency landing. While going through engine out litany, on fuel pump engagement, engine started. Continued to airport for normal landing. Pilot error pure and simple. Should have known better. Had just put on hood 3 mins earlier for practice ILS approach. Neither check pilot nor I remembered the prelndg checklist.

Title: EMER DECLARED WHEN SMA ACFT SUFFERS FROM FUEL STARVATION ON LONG FINAL.
Narrative: FAILED TO SWITCH TO FULLER TANK FOR LNDG. DUE TO TURB, TANK UNPORTED (4 GALLONS REMAINING) CAUSING ENG STOPPAGE. SWITCHED TO OTHER TANK BUT DID NOT RESTART.
