Narrative:
On 12/wed/92, I was advised by chief pilot that the FAA had been in contact with him in regard to the operation of my aircraft. The FAA inspector stated that he observed my aircraft departing with ice on the tail surface on 11/mon/92 at mke airport. I personally was not contacted by the FAA until I called mke FSDO on 12/mon/92 and spoke to the FAA inspector. I do not recall ever departing an airport with ice formations that are prohibited by FARS 135.227 or 91.527 or company operations specifications. I do not believe there were any violations broken but was informed that the FAA is investigating the situation. The FAA should have to notify pilots of impending investigations as soon as possible. 7 days have elapsed since the situation occurred and the time of unofficial notification of the investigation. This makes it more difficult for the pilot to defend himself and prove his innocence.

Title: ACR LTT FLC ACCUSED OF DEPARTING ARPT RAMP WITH ICE ON THE TAIL OF ACFT. RPTED BY ACI AT RAMP.
Narrative: ON 12/WED/92, I WAS ADVISED BY CHIEF PLT THAT THE FAA HAD BEEN IN CONTACT WITH HIM IN REGARD TO THE OP OF MY ACFT. THE FAA INSPECTOR STATED THAT HE OBSERVED MY ACFT DEPARTING WITH ICE ON THE TAIL SURFACE ON 11/MON/92 AT MKE ARPT. I PERSONALLY WAS NOT CONTACTED BY THE FAA UNTIL I CALLED MKE FSDO ON 12/MON/92 AND SPOKE TO THE FAA INSPECTOR. I DO NOT RECALL EVER DEPARTING AN ARPT WITH ICE FORMATIONS THAT ARE PROHIBITED BY FARS 135.227 OR 91.527 OR COMPANY OPS SPECS. I DO NOT BELIEVE THERE WERE ANY VIOLATIONS BROKEN BUT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAA IS INVESTIGATING THE SITUATION. THE FAA SHOULD HAVE TO NOTIFY PLTS OF IMPENDING INVESTIGATIONS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. 7 DAYS HAVE ELAPSED SINCE THE SITUATION OCCURRED AND THE TIME OF UNOFFICIAL NOTIFICATION OF THE INVESTIGATION. THIS MAKES IT MORE DIFFICULT FOR THE PLT TO DEFEND HIMSELF AND PROVE HIS INNOCENCE.
