Narrative:
Flight dispatched philadelphia to slc. Slc WX went below minimums when GS went out. Started to divert to hill AFB, but WX went below minimums. Low on fuel, flight control advised to divert to ida. However, ida operations had advised flight control that field conditions were poor on ramp and runway (we were never notified of this). On approaching ida, visibility dropped to 1 mi, with braking action reported poor by small transport. However, this report was 2 hours old, unknown to us. After normal approach and landing at 1000 ft touchdown point, used maximum reverse and maximum braking, landing with 4500 pounds of fuel. Aircraft was hardly moving at end of runway with maximum reverse and braking, but could not make turn onto taxiway. Nosewheel slid off taxiway, main gear remained on taxiway. Passenger off loaded, aircraft towed to gate. Problem causes: faulty WX forecast, not advised of field conditions for alternate, and not given updated braking report.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RWY EXCURSION AFTER ACR MLG LANDS ON SNOW COVERED RWY.
Narrative: FLT DISPATCHED PHILADELPHIA TO SLC. SLC WX WENT BELOW MINIMUMS WHEN GS WENT OUT. STARTED TO DIVERT TO HILL AFB, BUT WX WENT BELOW MINIMUMS. LOW ON FUEL, FLT CTL ADVISED TO DIVERT TO IDA. HOWEVER, IDA OPS HAD ADVISED FLT CTL THAT FIELD CONDITIONS WERE POOR ON RAMP AND RWY (WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS). ON APCHING IDA, VISIBILITY DROPPED TO 1 MI, WITH BRAKING ACTION RPTED POOR BY SMT. HOWEVER, THIS RPT WAS 2 HRS OLD, UNKNOWN TO US. AFTER NORMAL APCH AND LNDG AT 1000 FT TOUCHDOWN POINT, USED MAX REVERSE AND MAX BRAKING, LNDG WITH 4500 LBS OF FUEL. ACFT WAS HARDLY MOVING AT END OF RWY WITH MAX REVERSE AND BRAKING, BUT COULD NOT MAKE TURN ONTO TXWY. NOSEWHEEL SLID OFF TXWY, MAIN GEAR REMAINED ON TXWY. PAX OFF LOADED, ACFT TOWED TO GATE. PROB CAUSES: FAULTY WX FORECAST, NOT ADVISED OF FIELD CONDITIONS FOR ALTERNATE, AND NOT GIVEN UPDATED BRAKING RPT.
