Narrative:
Flight from lit-iah, took off from lit. While in the en route climb all system were working normally. We leveled off at our cruising altitude of 16000 ft. I (the captain) started to make the PA to turn off the seat belt sign when I heard a loud popping sound. I didn't feel or notice any vibrations or abnormalities with the aircraft so I continued with my PA. After I was done with the PA, the flight attendant called and said that a passenger had asked her if that door sticking straight out was normal. The door the passenger was talking about was the left main gear door. She said she could see it out the left side windows. I went back and took a look at it and sure enough the left main gear door was sticking straight out. While en route I called maintenance and told them of my problem. Maintenance advised me to continue to iah. Once I landed and taxied off the runway maintenance was waiting for me to look at the door. They wired the door up so it wouldn't rub against the tires as we taxied to the gate. Before we taxied to the gate we deplaned all the passenger and put them on busses.
