Narrative:
Autoplt captured and tracked an erroneous signal caused by a malfunctioning navigation receiver. All aircraft indications were normal. This incident proved once again that crews cannot drop their vigilance while operating automated aircraft -- this aircraft being an medium large transport. Aircraft was repaired and I was reminded of the old 'fly the aircraft first' saying. Many thanks to the memphis tower and approach folks for their valued assistance!
