Narrative:
TCASII RA while level at FL350 on pxu 070096. TCASII alert to descend/crossing descend. Followed TCASII instructions and descended at about 2000 FPM down to FL335. Also deviated heading and turned about 20 degrees to the right. After clear of conflict returned back to radial and back to FL350. Initial heading we were on was center assigned and we were not told to deviate left or right for other traffic. Supplemental information from acn 235292: reported a deviation from altitude because of a TCASII RA. This happened because of a loss of separation caused by poor en route ATC. Our aircraft was at 35000 ft swbound. Air carrier Y was nebound at 35000 ft. We were complying with several radar vectors. While on a radar vector, air carrier Y flew at us and passed inside TCASII RA area. We complied with TCASII RA to descend. The en route controller vectored our aircraft towards the oncoming air carrier Y. The controller also issued descent clearance to air carrier Y, but did so much too late to avoid the conflict. Our aircraft was on assigned heading! There probably was training in progress at the center.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR X TCASII TA RA HAD LTSS FROM ACR Y. EVASIVE ACTION TAKEN. SYS ERROR.
Narrative: TCASII RA WHILE LEVEL AT FL350 ON PXU 070096. TCASII ALERT TO DSND/XING DSND. FOLLOWED TCASII INSTRUCTIONS AND DSNDED AT ABOUT 2000 FPM DOWN TO FL335. ALSO DEVIATED HDG AND TURNED ABOUT 20 DEGS TO THE R. AFTER CLR OF CONFLICT RETURNED BACK TO RADIAL AND BACK TO FL350. INITIAL HDG WE WERE ON WAS CTR ASSIGNED AND WE WERE NOT TOLD TO DEVIATE L OR R FOR OTHER TFC. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 235292: RPTED A DEV FROM ALT BECAUSE OF A TCASII RA. THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF A LOSS OF SEPARATION CAUSED BY POOR ENRTE ATC. OUR ACFT WAS AT 35000 FT SWBOUND. ACR Y WAS NEBOUND AT 35000 FT. WE WERE COMPLYING WITH SEVERAL RADAR VECTORS. WHILE ON A RADAR VECTOR, ACR Y FLEW AT US AND PASSED INSIDE TCASII RA AREA. WE COMPLIED WITH TCASII RA TO DSND. THE ENRTE CTLR VECTORED OUR ACFT TOWARDS THE ONCOMING ACR Y. THE CTLR ALSO ISSUED DSCNT CLRNC TO ACR Y, BUT DID SO MUCH TOO LATE TO AVOID THE CONFLICT. OUR ACFT WAS ON ASSIGNED HDG! THERE PROBABLY WAS TRAINING IN PROGRESS AT THE CTR.
