Narrative:
Incident occurred while executing the loop 9 departure at lax. Position at time of first ATC alert was lax VOR 041 degree radial approximately 10 NM 15000 ft. ZLA reported contact at about 10-11 O'clock 8 NM. ZLA cleared us to FL230. We acknowledged the clearance but almost immediately a different controller's voice told us to maintain 15000 ft which we acknowledged. ZLA then reported the target at about 3 NM and converging. Visual contact made by captain at about 3 NM. First officer was flying. TCASII RA to descend was executed immediately. Time was XA29Z. Position lax VOR 041 degree radial 18.8 NM. Target passed overhead at about 500-800 ft. At that point we were at 14600 ft. ZLA was advised of the TCASII evasive action.
