Narrative:
On mar/sun/93, I was originally scheduled to fly a positioning flight from mia to cun. When arriving in cun our crew was advised that we would have to pick up additional legs (cun/bosecond officerrm/pbi) because the original crew was running 4 hours late and all the other crews in cun were illegal. The 3 crew members did as requested. The question of going illegal was brought up in a discussion in the cockpit on the first leg. After arriving in boston, the captain called our dispatch to express his concern. We were advised that we were legal because we were not scheduled for these legs. After returning home to mia and the following day, we were advised that the last leg was illegal because we went over 8 in 24 scheduled flight hours. Going illegal was inadvertent and not done on purpose in any way. A lesson was learned and it shall not happen again. I will be careful and not rely on other people.
