Narrative:
Dfw ATIS indicated lndgs on 35R/36L plan to hold short txwys 18 and 19. (New procedure at dfw to allow traffic to cross 35R and 36L on 18 and 19 while aircraft are departing and arriving 35R and 36L.) we landed on 31R and cleared runway. First officer changed to ground and reported clear (didn't mention the runway clear of). The ground controller's reply was 'taxiway 19 inner.' we proceeded wbound crossed 35R and stopped short of 35L since there was an aircraft holding short of 35L. At that point ground control asked our position and indicated he thought we were another aircraft when he issued the taxi clearance (he did want us to hold short of 35R). I should have questioned the clearance and would have if the new land/hold short procedure hadn't been in effect. I felt with the new procedure as well as the clearance I received I was cleared to cross both 35R and 35L and turn left on the inner. Corrective actions: always inform ground control of the runway number you're clearing. Don't switch to ground control until tower tells you to. Ground control needs to be certain of aircraft he's issuing a clearance to. Abolish the new land/hold short of txwys at dfw. This procedure allows ground traffic on active runways with aircraft landing on those runways at the same time. I think that's a dangerous setup.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: GND CTLR CLRED ACFT TO THE GATE THINKING HE WAS TALKING TO A DIFFERENT ACFT. THIS RESULTED IN THE ACFT XING AN ACTIVE RWY.
Narrative: DFW ATIS INDICATED LNDGS ON 35R/36L PLAN TO HOLD SHORT TXWYS 18 AND 19. (NEW PROC AT DFW TO ALLOW TFC TO CROSS 35R AND 36L ON 18 AND 19 WHILE ACFT ARE DEPARTING AND ARRIVING 35R AND 36L.) WE LANDED ON 31R AND CLRED RWY. FO CHANGED TO GND AND RPTED CLR (DIDN'T MENTION THE RWY CLR OF). THE GND CTLR'S REPLY WAS 'TXWY 19 INNER.' WE PROCEEDED WBOUND CROSSED 35R AND STOPPED SHORT OF 35L SINCE THERE WAS AN ACFT HOLDING SHORT OF 35L. AT THAT POINT GND CTL ASKED OUR POS AND INDICATED HE THOUGHT WE WERE ANOTHER ACFT WHEN HE ISSUED THE TAXI CLRNC (HE DID WANT US TO HOLD SHORT OF 35R). I SHOULD HAVE QUESTIONED THE CLRNC AND WOULD HAVE IF THE NEW LAND/HOLD SHORT PROC HADN'T BEEN IN EFFECT. I FELT WITH THE NEW PROC AS WELL AS THE CLRNC I RECEIVED I WAS CLRED TO CROSS BOTH 35R AND 35L AND TURN L ON THE INNER. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: ALWAYS INFORM GND CTL OF THE RWY NUMBER YOU'RE CLRING. DON'T SWITCH TO GND CTL UNTIL TWR TELLS YOU TO. GND CTL NEEDS TO BE CERTAIN OF ACFT HE'S ISSUING A CLRNC TO. ABOLISH THE NEW LAND/HOLD SHORT OF TXWYS AT DFW. THIS PROC ALLOWS GND TFC ON ACTIVE RWYS WITH ACFT LNDG ON THOSE RWYS AT THE SAME TIME. I THINK THAT'S A DANGEROUS SETUP.
