Narrative:
Cabin was described as 'filling with smoke' by lead flight attendant. Observed smoke in cabin and began diversion toward geg. Communication (emergency) procedures were accomplished. Observed right pack temperature to be high during accomplishment of procedure. Turning off the right air conditioning supply switch stopped smoke from the overheated pack. Reset temperature control to manual and adjusted temperature to cold. With concurrence of maintenance control and dispatch, operated pack with temperature and pressures normal in manual temperature control. Aircraft weight exceeded 'over weight' conditions for geg landing. With concurrence of dispatch and maintenance control, climbed to cruise altitude and continued flight to msp.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MLG HAS AIR CONDITIONING SMOKE AND BEGINS TO DIVERT TO GEG.
Narrative: CABIN WAS DESCRIBED AS 'FILLING WITH SMOKE' BY LEAD FLT ATTENDANT. OBSERVED SMOKE IN CABIN AND BEGAN DIVERSION TOWARD GEG. COM (EMER) PROCS WERE ACCOMPLISHED. OBSERVED R PACK TEMP TO BE HIGH DURING ACCOMPLISHMENT OF PROC. TURNING OFF THE R AIR CONDITIONING SUPPLY SWITCH STOPPED SMOKE FROM THE OVERHEATED PACK. RESET TEMP CTL TO MANUAL AND ADJUSTED TEMP TO COLD. WITH CONCURRENCE OF MAINT CTL AND DISPATCH, OPERATED PACK WITH TEMP AND PRESSURES NORMAL IN MANUAL TEMP CTL. ACFT WT EXCEEDED 'OVER WT' CONDITIONS FOR GEG LNDG. WITH CONCURRENCE OF DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL, CLBED TO CRUISE ALT AND CONTINUED FLT TO MSP.
