Narrative:
During the taxi out for takeoff on the first flight of the day the crew executed a normal takeoff, while the aircraft was only cleared, 'into position and hold.' on may/xx/93 XXX airlines (formerly yz airlines) began using new cockpit checklists and performance manuals. The training in these new procedures was at best poor and limited to demonstrations. (The crews were expected to do self help at being able to perform the new procedures.) while completing our before takeoff check, which is somewhat new to us yet, we thought we had been cleared for takeoff. After becoming airborne the tower asked us to wait until cleared for 'takeoff' next time. Reflecting upon that event it became obvious to both crew members that the many new changes in checklist callouts and flows has upset our normal patterns and we became less aware of outside activities and instructions.

Title: COMMUTER USING NEW CHKLIST PROC, TAKES OFF WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: DURING THE TAXI OUT FOR TKOF ON THE FIRST FLT OF THE DAY THE CREW EXECUTED A NORMAL TKOF, WHILE THE ACFT WAS ONLY CLRED, 'INTO POS AND HOLD.' ON MAY/XX/93 XXX AIRLINES (FORMERLY YZ AIRLINES) BEGAN USING NEW COCKPIT CHKLISTS AND PERFORMANCE MANUALS. THE TRAINING IN THESE NEW PROCS WAS AT BEST POOR AND LIMITED TO DEMONSTRATIONS. (THE CREWS WERE EXPECTED TO DO SELF HELP AT BEING ABLE TO PERFORM THE NEW PROCS.) WHILE COMPLETING OUR BEFORE TKOF CHK, WHICH IS SOMEWHAT NEW TO US YET, WE THOUGHT WE HAD BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF. AFTER BECOMING AIRBORNE THE TWR ASKED US TO WAIT UNTIL CLRED FOR 'TKOF' NEXT TIME. REFLECTING UPON THAT EVENT IT BECAME OBVIOUS TO BOTH CREW MEMBERS THAT THE MANY NEW CHANGES IN CHKLIST CALLOUTS AND FLOWS HAS UPSET OUR NORMAL PATTERNS AND WE BECAME LESS AWARE OF OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES AND INSTRUCTIONS.
