Narrative:
We had had a mechanical, a flat nosewheel. It looked like the mechanics were almost done and in an effort to speed things up we did the 'before start checklist' early (10-15 mins) normally done 5 mins before push. The before start calls for all required pumps to be turned on. After takeoff and during the climb check I noticed only the aft pumps were on. Procedures call for all pumps on for takeoff. After landing I asked the first officer about the pumps. He didn't know. Our checklist is a challenge/response type. But the first officer reads and responds to his own challenges. I trusted this first officer and he obviously became complacent is his work. There was an FAA inspector on the jumpseat and we both did our part to small talk with him while at the gate. As hard as we tried maybe we missed part of the checklist. In the future I will try to doublechk that the first officer has done what he says he has. I think it is a good idea to develop a scan and flow to check item done. This would be good whether you're captain or first officer.

Title: ACR TAKES OFF WITH PUMPS IN OFF POS.

I TRUSTED THIS FO AND HE OBVIOUSLY BECAME COMPLACENT IS HIS WORK. THERE WAS AN FAA INSPECTOR ON THE JUMPSEAT AND WE BOTH DID OUR PART TO SMALL TALK WITH HIM WHILE AT THE GATE.
