Narrative:

During an armed water takeoff, it was discovered only 1 pump was operating, when both pumps are supposed to be operating. At that time the takeoff was aborted. The pump was MEL'ed and the flight was completed. This was the first time I ever had a problem arise in both a crew environment and during a takeoff roll. I, being the captain, hesitated a second or two because I didn't believe it was happening. Once the abort was initiated, it was carried out in a professional manner using both crew members. Cockpit resource management training that we received really did work!
