Narrative:

Flight departed oma on jun/mon/93 about XA00. I was carrying a camera crew to fsd to cover a rock concert. The rock band took off behind me in a jet small transport. Camera crew wanted to get some air-to-air photos for their show. I informed them that I could not do any formation flying. The crew in the jet small transport decided they would fly VFR so they could come within 500 ft of my altitude so camera crew could get the pictures they wanted. I was operating on an instrument flight plan. The jet small transport crew told me that they would find me with the help of center then pass off my right side with 500 ft vertical and 1/2 mi separation. When they found me I was to hold a constant heading and airspeed, which I did. But when they came up along side they were much closer than they told me they would be. We were talking to each other on 122.75. I do not feel there was any danger, but I was operating on an instrument flight plan and I did not tell center that I wanted to fly formation or that I knew that the jet small transport crew would come that close. After the jet small transport came along side and I saw that they were that close, I cancelled IFR with center but retained flight advisories. I do not feel that center knew how close the jet small transport was planning to come to my aircraft. But I was on an instrument flight, counting on legal IFR separation which I did not receive. I do not fault anyone, but I do feel that center should have asked me if I knew or was a willing participant in this close situation.

Title: AN SMT JOINED UP ON THE RPTING SMT FOR PHOTO PURPOSES. THE RPTING SMT DID NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN.

Narrative: FLT DEPARTED OMA ON JUN/MON/93 ABOUT XA00. I WAS CARRYING A CAMERA CREW TO FSD TO COVER A ROCK CONCERT. THE ROCK BAND TOOK OFF BEHIND ME IN A JET SMT. CAMERA CREW WANTED TO GET SOME AIR-TO-AIR PHOTOS FOR THEIR SHOW. I INFORMED THEM THAT I COULD NOT DO ANY FORMATION FLYING. THE CREW IN THE JET SMT DECIDED THEY WOULD FLY VFR SO THEY COULD COME WITHIN 500 FT OF MY ALT SO CAMERA CREW COULD GET THE PICTURES THEY WANTED. I WAS OPERATING ON AN INST FLT PLAN. THE JET SMT CREW TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD FIND ME WITH THE HELP OF CTR THEN PASS OFF MY R SIDE WITH 500 FT VERT AND 1/2 MI SEPARATION. WHEN THEY FOUND ME I WAS TO HOLD A CONSTANT HDG AND AIRSPD, WHICH I DID. BUT WHEN THEY CAME UP ALONG SIDE THEY WERE MUCH CLOSER THAN THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD BE. WE WERE TALKING TO EACH OTHER ON 122.75. I DO NOT FEEL THERE WAS ANY DANGER, BUT I WAS OPERATING ON AN INST FLT PLAN AND I DID NOT TELL CTR THAT I WANTED TO FLY FORMATION OR THAT I KNEW THAT THE JET SMT CREW WOULD COME THAT CLOSE. AFTER THE JET SMT CAME ALONG SIDE AND I SAW THAT THEY WERE THAT CLOSE, I CANCELLED IFR WITH CTR BUT RETAINED FLT ADVISORIES. I DO NOT FEEL THAT CTR KNEW HOW CLOSE THE JET SMT WAS PLANNING TO COME TO MY ACFT. BUT I WAS ON AN INST FLT, COUNTING ON LEGAL IFR SEPARATION WHICH I DID NOT RECEIVE. I DO NOT FAULT ANYONE, BUT I DO FEEL THAT CTR SHOULD HAVE ASKED ME IF I KNEW OR WAS A WILLING PARTICIPANT IN THIS CLOSE SIT.
