Narrative:

Making approach to runway 24R lax, approach control issued turn to 160 degrees and descent to 2500 ft, 180 KIAS. We were established on base leg and cleared for a visual approach to runway 24R. When approaching interception of final approach at approximately 7 mi and 3000 ft, we received a TA on TCASII. We looked for traffic and leveled aircraft. Then RA indicated target at 10 O'clock 400 ft below us. Attention diverted to TCASII screen, then outside. Both pilots looking for aircraft and I overshot final approach (localizer) making situation worse. RA indicated 'monitor descent.' I turned to reintercept final. Traffic located visually at 9 O'clock on final for runway 25L. Continued approach for normal landing. ATIS was giving 15 ft visibility, but into sun visibility was less. Reintercepting final provided separation to receive a TCASII 'clear of conflict.' I called approach supervisor and discussed situation. He indicated that there was adequate separation and he did not view it as a problem.

Title: MLG ON APCH RECEIVES TCASII TA THEN RA. RESPONDS AND OVERSHOOTS LOC.

Narrative: MAKING APCH TO RWY 24R LAX, APCH CTL ISSUED TURN TO 160 DEGS AND DSCNT TO 2500 FT, 180 KIAS. WE WERE ESTABLISHED ON BASE LEG AND CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 24R. WHEN APCHING INTERCEPTION OF FINAL APCH AT APPROX 7 MI AND 3000 FT, WE RECEIVED A TA ON TCASII. WE LOOKED FOR TFC AND LEVELED ACFT. THEN RA INDICATED TARGET AT 10 O'CLOCK 400 FT BELOW US. ATTN DIVERTED TO TCASII SCREEN, THEN OUTSIDE. BOTH PLTS LOOKING FOR ACFT AND I OVERSHOT FINAL APCH (LOC) MAKING SIT WORSE. RA INDICATED 'MONITOR DSCNT.' I TURNED TO REINTERCEPT FINAL. TFC LOCATED VISUALLY AT 9 O'CLOCK ON FINAL FOR RWY 25L. CONTINUED APCH FOR NORMAL LNDG. ATIS WAS GIVING 15 FT VISIBILITY, BUT INTO SUN VISIBILITY WAS LESS. REINTERCEPTING FINAL PROVIDED SEPARATION TO RECEIVE A TCASII 'CLR OF CONFLICT.' I CALLED APCH SUPVR AND DISCUSSED SIT. HE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS ADEQUATE SEPARATION AND HE DID NOT VIEW IT AS A PROB.
