Narrative:
Approximately 5 mins after takeoff, engine power loss, nil oil pressure. Having passed an abandoned air strip approximately 1 mi behind me, I felt the safest procedure was to return to this strip rather than return to chandler field. Made approach at normal approach speed or 60 mph. Touched down on first 1/3 of strip which was reduced to approximately 20 ft width by weeds. Touchdown was normal, slightly off estimated center of strip. Due to vegetation and general condition of strip, was unable to keep aircraft on hard surface. Condition of field off hard surface was soft plowed dirt. Upon contacting soft surface, aircraft nosed over at very low speed. Pilot and passenger exited aircraft within 1 min with no serious injuries. Local sheriff, fire, and medical personnel and equipment arrived within about 5 mins. Although the passenger was apparently not injured, the pilot preferred that the passenger have a medical check. The FAA representative arrived, interviewed pilot, and examined aircraft. The aircraft was partially disassembled and removed to chandler field.

Title: AN ANTIQUE SMA HAD AN ENG FAILURE. IT WAS DAMAGED WHILE LNDG ON A VERY POOR RWY.
Narrative: APPROX 5 MINS AFTER TKOF, ENG PWR LOSS, NIL OIL PRESSURE. HAVING PASSED AN ABANDONED AIR STRIP APPROX 1 MI BEHIND ME, I FELT THE SAFEST PROC WAS TO RETURN TO THIS STRIP RATHER THAN RETURN TO CHANDLER FIELD. MADE APCH AT NORMAL APCH SPD OR 60 MPH. TOUCHED DOWN ON FIRST 1/3 OF STRIP WHICH WAS REDUCED TO APPROX 20 FT WIDTH BY WEEDS. TOUCHDOWN WAS NORMAL, SLIGHTLY OFF ESTIMATED CTR OF STRIP. DUE TO VEGETATION AND GENERAL CONDITION OF STRIP, WAS UNABLE TO KEEP ACFT ON HARD SURFACE. CONDITION OF FIELD OFF HARD SURFACE WAS SOFT PLOWED DIRT. UPON CONTACTING SOFT SURFACE, ACFT NOSED OVER AT VERY LOW SPD. PLT AND PAX EXITED ACFT WITHIN 1 MIN WITH NO SERIOUS INJURIES. LCL SHERIFF, FIRE, AND MEDICAL PERSONNEL AND EQUIP ARRIVED WITHIN ABOUT 5 MINS. ALTHOUGH THE PAX WAS APPARENTLY NOT INJURED, THE PLT PREFERRED THAT THE PAX HAVE A MEDICAL CHK. THE FAA REPRESENTATIVE ARRIVED, INTERVIEWED PLT, AND EXAMINED ACFT. THE ACFT WAS PARTIALLY DISASSEMBLED AND REMOVED TO CHANDLER FIELD.
