Narrative:

Cleared to taxi from gate to runway 34 to hold short of runway 5R. Taxied on taxiway C from the gate area. As taxiway C approachs the intersection of runway 5R/23L and runway 34/16, it forks. Proceeding straight ahead takes you on runway 16/34. Turning slightly right takes you across runway 5R/23L. At the beginning of the Y, a hold short line is painted (as it turned out this line is the hold short point for all runways at that intersection). But as we approached that line, another line could be seen on taxiway C at the edge of runway 5R. I was going to stop at the first line and slowed down to a near stop when I noticed the second line, so I decided to turn the corner (to get a better view of runway 5R which was one of the active runways) and hold short at the next line. As the nose of the aircraft slowly crossed the first line, ground control said we had crossed the hold short line and to stop taxi, which we did. We crossed the line by about 10 ft but were well clear of all runways and no conflict occurred. My thoughts were that the first line was a hold short of runway 16/34 and the second was for runway 5R/23L. As it turned out, the second line was an old line that was poorly painted over but still partly visible. From now on, I will stop at all hold short lines if not absolutely clear that it is ok to proceed.

Title: AN ACR MLG PLT CROSSED A HOLD SHORT LINE WHILE PROCEEDING TO ANOTHER HOLD SHORT LINE THAT HAD BEEN POORLY PAINTED OVER.

Narrative: CLRED TO TAXI FROM GATE TO RWY 34 TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 5R. TAXIED ON TXWY C FROM THE GATE AREA. AS TXWY C APCHS THE INTXN OF RWY 5R/23L AND RWY 34/16, IT FORKS. PROCEEDING STRAIGHT AHEAD TAKES YOU ON RWY 16/34. TURNING SLIGHTLY R TAKES YOU ACROSS RWY 5R/23L. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE Y, A HOLD SHORT LINE IS PAINTED (AS IT TURNED OUT THIS LINE IS THE HOLD SHORT POINT FOR ALL RWYS AT THAT INTXN). BUT AS WE APCHED THAT LINE, ANOTHER LINE COULD BE SEEN ON TXWY C AT THE EDGE OF RWY 5R. I WAS GOING TO STOP AT THE FIRST LINE AND SLOWED DOWN TO A NEAR STOP WHEN I NOTICED THE SECOND LINE, SO I DECIDED TO TURN THE CORNER (TO GET A BETTER VIEW OF RWY 5R WHICH WAS ONE OF THE ACTIVE RWYS) AND HOLD SHORT AT THE NEXT LINE. AS THE NOSE OF THE ACFT SLOWLY CROSSED THE FIRST LINE, GND CTL SAID WE HAD CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND TO STOP TAXI, WHICH WE DID. WE CROSSED THE LINE BY ABOUT 10 FT BUT WERE WELL CLR OF ALL RWYS AND NO CONFLICT OCCURRED. MY THOUGHTS WERE THAT THE FIRST LINE WAS A HOLD SHORT OF RWY 16/34 AND THE SECOND WAS FOR RWY 5R/23L. AS IT TURNED OUT, THE SECOND LINE WAS AN OLD LINE THAT WAS POORLY PAINTED OVER BUT STILL PARTLY VISIBLE. FROM NOW ON, I WILL STOP AT ALL HOLD SHORT LINES IF NOT ABSOLUTELY CLR THAT IT IS OK TO PROCEED.
