Narrative:
I requested a straight out departure to san carlos air traffic area from palo alto ATC with no problem with the radio, received frequency change approval from palo alto ATC. After turning to san carlos ATC, I had 2-WAY radio failure and decided to turn back to palo alto air traffic area and squawk 7600 and request light signal to land. Problem may have been caused by the heat and windshield shades may help when parked at the ramp.
