Narrative:
The dispatcher realized that the published rerte flann G432 bda A632 lopps direct 2700 north would take the following flts outside of 60 mins, 6220W from an adequate airport as required by far 121.161. The flts were xyz airlines flight to bgi-jfk, sxm-jfk and bos-sju. Due to the numerous blocks, the only alternative at that time was to let the flts continue. The flcs do not have caribbean plotting charts that show where they would be more than 60 mins from an adequate airport. Type of equipment involved were large transport X and large transport Y. Supplemental information from acn 246798: after landing, we were advised by the dispatcher on duty that the point 27N 62.2W was approximately 5 mi beyond the far maximum distance requirement of 1 hour, single engine flying time from a suitable airport. Because of a deviation around thunderstorms, we actually flew well to the west of that point. However, the fact remains that I accepted a clearance which was in violation of an far.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATLANTIC MISSILE RANGE CLOSURE CATCHES DISPATCHER WHO FAILS TO REALIZE SOME FLTS WILL BE FURTHER THAN 60 MINS FROM SUITABLE ARPT. DETECTED AFTER FLTS.
Narrative: THE DISPATCHER REALIZED THAT THE PUBLISHED RERTE FLANN G432 BDA A632 LOPPS DIRECT 2700 N WOULD TAKE THE FOLLOWING FLTS OUTSIDE OF 60 MINS, 6220W FROM AN ADEQUATE ARPT AS REQUIRED BY FAR 121.161. THE FLTS WERE XYZ AIRLINES FLT TO BGI-JFK, SXM-JFK AND BOS-SJU. DUE TO THE NUMEROUS BLOCKS, THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE AT THAT TIME WAS TO LET THE FLTS CONTINUE. THE FLCS DO NOT HAVE CARIBBEAN PLOTTING CHARTS THAT SHOW WHERE THEY WOULD BE MORE THAN 60 MINS FROM AN ADEQUATE ARPT. TYPE OF EQUIP INVOLVED WERE LGT X AND LGT Y. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 246798: AFTER LNDG, WE WERE ADVISED BY THE DISPATCHER ON DUTY THAT THE POINT 27N 62.2W WAS APPROX 5 MI BEYOND THE FAR MAX DISTANCE REQUIREMENT OF 1 HR, SINGLE ENG FLYING TIME FROM A SUITABLE ARPT. BECAUSE OF A DEV AROUND TSTMS, WE ACTUALLY FLEW WELL TO THE W OF THAT POINT. HOWEVER, THE FACT REMAINS THAT I ACCEPTED A CLRNC WHICH WAS IN VIOLATION OF AN FAR.
