Narrative:
Under ATC control inside the den TCA we were vectored to a 180 degree heading approximately 13 northeast of the airport. A near miss occurred at 8000 ft. Approach did not call the traffic. It was a VFR high wing small aircraft inside the den TCA. Evasive action was a hard right turn from both aircraft. Upon landing, I contacted the TRACON manager and reported the incident. I asked to pull the tape and review the occurrence. He contacted me a few hours later and informed me that there was no target (primary or secondary) in my vicinity. I've concluded that this single engine small aircraft was illegally inside the den TCA without a working transponder.
