Narrative:
I inadvertently and prematurely retracted the landing gear in my small aircraft 1 while rolling out during an attempted touch- and-go on runway 4 chippewa valley regional airport (eau). In an attempt to retract the flaps for the ensuing takeoff, I incorrectly lifted the gear handle. The main gear began to retract and the plane settled to the runway and slid to a stop. The power was at idle and I pulled the mixture to full lean, fuel selector to off, and electrical off. My passenger and I exited the plane without injury or further incident. The damage to the plane was limited to skinned inner gear doors, left flap, and tail skid. The plane was immediately inspected by a certified mechanic, jacked up, and the gear mechanically lowered. After reinspection by the mechanic, and with only the minor damage noted above, I taxied the plane to the hangar without incident. The primary cause of this incident was lack of recent time in complex aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN SMA PLT LIFTED HIS LNDG GEAR WHEN HE MEANT TO LIFT HIS FLAPS. ACFT SETTLED TO THE RWY.
Narrative: I INADVERTENTLY AND PREMATURELY RETRACTED THE LNDG GEAR IN MY SMA 1 WHILE ROLLING OUT DURING AN ATTEMPTED TOUCH- AND-GO ON RWY 4 CHIPPEWA VALLEY REGIONAL ARPT (EAU). IN AN ATTEMPT TO RETRACT THE FLAPS FOR THE ENSUING TKOF, I INCORRECTLY LIFTED THE GEAR HANDLE. THE MAIN GEAR BEGAN TO RETRACT AND THE PLANE SETTLED TO THE RWY AND SLID TO A STOP. THE PWR WAS AT IDLE AND I PULLED THE MIXTURE TO FULL LEAN, FUEL SELECTOR TO OFF, AND ELECTRICAL OFF. MY PAX AND I EXITED THE PLANE WITHOUT INJURY OR FURTHER INCIDENT. THE DAMAGE TO THE PLANE WAS LIMITED TO SKINNED INNER GEAR DOORS, L FLAP, AND TAIL SKID. THE PLANE WAS IMMEDIATELY INSPECTED BY A CERTIFIED MECH, JACKED UP, AND THE GEAR MECHANICALLY LOWERED. AFTER REINSPECTION BY THE MECH, AND WITH ONLY THE MINOR DAMAGE NOTED ABOVE, I TAXIED THE PLANE TO THE HANGAR WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT WAS LACK OF RECENT TIME IN COMPLEX ACFT.
