Narrative:
I was taxiing to the active runway, and the taxiway was blocked by a part 121 aircraft awaiting takeoff time. I chose to leave the taxiway and taxi on a ground surface that was cleared of all grass. It appeared good but was slightly soft but posed no problem. When I approached the taxiway and runway hard surface, the nose gear collapsed. I secured the aircraft, notified unicom and deplaned. Upon inspection of the area, it was noted the ground washed out for about 1 ft length, a depth of about 3 inches and about 2 inches wide. This evidently caused the nose gear to fail causing the propeller to strike the asphalt surface. The taxi speed was about 5 mph and the propeller RPM was about 1200 FPM.

Title: AN SMA PLT DAMAGED HIS ACFT WHEN HE DELIBERATELY TAXIED OFF OF THE HARD SURFACE AND ATTEMPTED TO CLB BACK ONTO THE HARD SURFACE.
Narrative: I WAS TAXIING TO THE ACTIVE RWY, AND THE TXWY WAS BLOCKED BY A PART 121 ACFT AWAITING TKOF TIME. I CHOSE TO LEAVE THE TXWY AND TAXI ON A GND SURFACE THAT WAS CLRED OF ALL GRASS. IT APPEARED GOOD BUT WAS SLIGHTLY SOFT BUT POSED NO PROB. WHEN I APCHED THE TXWY AND RWY HARD SURFACE, THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED. I SECURED THE ACFT, NOTIFIED UNICOM AND DEPLANED. UPON INSPECTION OF THE AREA, IT WAS NOTED THE GND WASHED OUT FOR ABOUT 1 FT LENGTH, A DEPTH OF ABOUT 3 INCHES AND ABOUT 2 INCHES WIDE. THIS EVIDENTLY CAUSED THE NOSE GEAR TO FAIL CAUSING THE PROP TO STRIKE THE ASPHALT SURFACE. THE TAXI SPD WAS ABOUT 5 MPH AND THE PROP RPM WAS ABOUT 1200 FPM.
