Narrative:

At approximately XA00 am CDT sep/fri/93 the reporter was plting an aircraft on final approach to runway 35 at antique airfield blakesburg, ia. The runway threshold is abutted by a field of standing corn. Upon flare for landing the aircraft struck a steel fence post obscured on approach by the corn. This has been properly reported per regulations. The purpose of this report, however, is to advise the hazard exists, although my understanding is the hazard is not on airport property. It is also apparent that not enough altitude margin for hazards was allowed on this approach. The situation was worsened by the pilot concentrating on landing exactly at the end of the runway to minimize rollout.

Title: PLT OF AN SMA PVT ACFT STRUCK FENCE POST DURING LNDG APCH.

Narrative: AT APPROX XA00 AM CDT SEP/FRI/93 THE RPTR WAS PLTING AN ACFT ON FINAL APCH TO RWY 35 AT ANTIQUE AIRFIELD BLAKESBURG, IA. THE RWY THRESHOLD IS ABUTTED BY A FIELD OF STANDING CORN. UPON FLARE FOR LNDG THE ACFT STRUCK A STEEL FENCE POST OBSCURED ON APCH BY THE CORN. THIS HAS BEEN PROPERLY RPTED PER REGS. THE PURPOSE OF THIS RPT, HOWEVER, IS TO ADVISE THE HAZARD EXISTS, ALTHOUGH MY UNDERSTANDING IS THE HAZARD IS NOT ON ARPT PROPERTY. IT IS ALSO APPARENT THAT NOT ENOUGH ALT MARGIN FOR HAZARDS WAS ALLOWED ON THIS APCH. THE SIT WAS WORSENED BY THE PLT CONCENTRATING ON LNDG EXACTLY AT THE END OF THE RWY TO MINIMIZE ROLLOUT.
