Narrative:
In sum: an air carrier medium large transport experienced a #1 hydraulic system failure. Dispatch was contacted. A decision was made to continue to an alternate destination, clt. A proper briefing was made to the flight attendants and passenger. A jumpseat rider was put to use reading checklists and operating an electrical flap switch. The landing gear was extended manually and, with the remaining hydraulic power, the landing gear doors were retracted. An emergency had been declared, so the equipment was at the end of the runway. The aircraft was towed to the gate. 2 high pressure seals had failed causing the loss of fluid.
