Narrative:
On sep/sun/93 I was the first officer on flight dfw to sav. In the vicinity of mcn VOR at FL330 we observed an RA on TCASII. We descended approximately 400 ft and returned to FL330 when clear of conflict. The other airplane passed approximately 1500 ft above and 1 mi north of us. When we first tried to contact ZTL we were unable. After a couple of mins we were able to contact them and they informed us that they had been trying to contact us to give us a descent to FL310. They asked us if we had any knowledge of a radio failure on our part and we said no. After landing the captain was told to contact ZTL on the phone that night or the next morning. At this time I don't know what was said between the captain and center but the captain told me he would call me if he found out anything more.
