Narrative:
5 mins prior to departure, we called san juan center for IFR clearance to mem. We were told to call #1 for release. As captain I missed this restr while I talked on unicom to a coast guard aircraft in the pattern. He said he would slow down while on 6 mi final so we could depart. (He was a helicopter.) I took the runway unaware of the center instruction to call #1 for release. Airborne when I called san juan center at 1000 ft for radar contact. He said I was supposed to call #1 for release. He said we did not create a conflict or problem.
