Narrative:

This was a pleasure trip for my family, going from waukesha (ues) to ephraim (3d2) in door county. Unicom reported the winds as 'from the west' at up to 20 KTS. I tried landing on the paved runway 32, but due to the swirling winds was unable to hold the centerline. I executed a go around successfully. I called unicom again. They stated the winds favored the grass strip, but I misunderstood where the winds were coming from. I landed with the wind on the grass runway 19. This strip is only 2235 ft long. I ended up overrunning the runway by 30 ft. No one was hurt and the plane sustained no damage. In the future, however, I believe that when given a wind direction by unicom the pilot should still check the windsock. Also, if possible, he should get the wind direction in degrees, not simply 'from the west.'

Title: PVT PLT OF AN SMA SEL PVT ACFT LANDS DOWNWIND RUNNING OFF THE END OF THE RWY CAUSING NO DAMAGE TO THE ACFT.

Narrative: THIS WAS A PLEASURE TRIP FOR MY FAMILY, GOING FROM WAUKESHA (UES) TO EPHRAIM (3D2) IN DOOR COUNTY. UNICOM RPTED THE WINDS AS 'FROM THE W' AT UP TO 20 KTS. I TRIED LNDG ON THE PAVED RWY 32, BUT DUE TO THE SWIRLING WINDS WAS UNABLE TO HOLD THE CTRLINE. I EXECUTED A GAR SUCCESSFULLY. I CALLED UNICOM AGAIN. THEY STATED THE WINDS FAVORED THE GRASS STRIP, BUT I MISUNDERSTOOD WHERE THE WINDS WERE COMING FROM. I LANDED WITH THE WIND ON THE GRASS RWY 19. THIS STRIP IS ONLY 2235 FT LONG. I ENDED UP OVERRUNNING THE RWY BY 30 FT. NO ONE WAS HURT AND THE PLANE SUSTAINED NO DAMAGE. IN THE FUTURE, HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT WHEN GIVEN A WIND DIRECTION BY UNICOM THE PLT SHOULD STILL CHK THE WINDSOCK. ALSO, IF POSSIBLE, HE SHOULD GET THE WIND DIRECTION IN DEGS, NOT SIMPLY 'FROM THE W.'
