Narrative:
Landing east runway 9R approximately XA40 EST. WX cavu. My leg, first officer on radio. Approach advised cleared visual to follow medium large transport to 9R. We had traffic and airport in sight during entire approach. At outer marker, tower frequency (119.1) was put in but frequency congestion prevented immediate call up. We were busy getting gear down and landing checklists accomplished, then flaps to 25 and 45. After landing, turning off and holding short of 9L at taxiway sierra for a min, we heard approach say 'contact tower 119.1.' that's when I noticed the 'act' light illuminated on communication 1 indicating the displayed frequency was not the active frequency. We switched frequencys again, and contacted tower for crossing instructions. I went in and called them on the landline to apologize and make sure there had been no conflict or problem caused and they assured me that everything was fine. I believe this problem arose because my first officer and I did not 'mesh.' not that there was an overt problem, but a more subtle conflict that preoccupied both of our thoughts to the point where we were not really listening to the radio. Otherwise, I'm sure either of us would've recognized 'approach talk' from 'tower talk.' after landing I remember wondering (as we held short) why the tower didn't cross us when there was an obvious opportunity to do so. So, even that didn't 'wake me up' enough to recognize that I was still listening to approach control.

Title: COMMUTER FAILS TO CONTACT TWR WHEN HANDED OFF FROM TRACON. LAND WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: LNDG E RWY 9R APPROX XA40 EST. WX CAVU. MY LEG, FO ON RADIO. APCH ADVISED CLRED VISUAL TO FOLLOW MLG TO 9R. WE HAD TFC AND ARPT IN SIGHT DURING ENTIRE APCH. AT OUTER MARKER, TWR FREQ (119.1) WAS PUT IN BUT FREQ CONGESTION PREVENTED IMMEDIATE CALL UP. WE WERE BUSY GETTING GEAR DOWN AND LNDG CHKLISTS ACCOMPLISHED, THEN FLAPS TO 25 AND 45. AFTER LNDG, TURNING OFF AND HOLDING SHORT OF 9L AT TXWY SIERRA FOR A MIN, WE HEARD APCH SAY 'CONTACT TWR 119.1.' THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED THE 'ACT' LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON COM 1 INDICATING THE DISPLAYED FREQ WAS NOT THE ACTIVE FREQ. WE SWITCHED FREQS AGAIN, AND CONTACTED TWR FOR XING INSTRUCTIONS. I WENT IN AND CALLED THEM ON THE LANDLINE TO APOLOGIZE AND MAKE SURE THERE HAD BEEN NO CONFLICT OR PROB CAUSED AND THEY ASSURED ME THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I BELIEVE THIS PROB AROSE BECAUSE MY FO AND I DID NOT 'MESH.' NOT THAT THERE WAS AN OVERT PROB, BUT A MORE SUBTLE CONFLICT THAT PREOCCUPIED BOTH OF OUR THOUGHTS TO THE POINT WHERE WE WERE NOT REALLY LISTENING TO THE RADIO. OTHERWISE, I'M SURE EITHER OF US WOULD'VE RECOGNIZED 'APCH TALK' FROM 'TWR TALK.' AFTER LNDG I REMEMBER WONDERING (AS WE HELD SHORT) WHY THE TWR DIDN'T CROSS US WHEN THERE WAS AN OBVIOUS OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO. SO, EVEN THAT DIDN'T 'WAKE ME UP' ENOUGH TO RECOGNIZE THAT I WAS STILL LISTENING TO APCH CTL.
