Narrative:
My first officer and I were returning from harlingen, tx, to austin, tx, on our 10TH and final leg of the day. We logged 8 hours that day of flight time in rough WX (thunderstorms, turbulence, and occasional wind shear). Austin approach control cleared us for the ILS 31L approach to austin mueler airport while we were approximately 10 mi outside the marker, and instructed us to contact tower at the OM. My first officer was flying the approach. What happened next is the reason for this report. We went through our landing checklist while experiencing occasionally moderate turbulence and landed the aircraft on runway 31L. After landing and turning off the runway, I noticed that we were still on approach control frequency and had forgotten to contact tower at the marker. I contacted ground control and was given taxi instructions to our gate. Nothing was mentioned by ATC but I assume that we never received landing clearance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: COMMUTER FLT FAILS TO CONTACT TWR ON APCH. LANDS WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: MY FO AND I WERE RETURNING FROM HARLINGEN, TX, TO AUSTIN, TX, ON OUR 10TH AND FINAL LEG OF THE DAY. WE LOGGED 8 HRS THAT DAY OF FLT TIME IN ROUGH WX (TSTMS, TURB, AND OCCASIONAL WIND SHEAR). AUSTIN APCH CTL CLRED US FOR THE ILS 31L APCH TO AUSTIN MUELER ARPT WHILE WE WERE APPROX 10 MI OUTSIDE THE MARKER, AND INSTRUCTED US TO CONTACT TWR AT THE OM. MY FO WAS FLYING THE APCH. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT IS THE REASON FOR THIS RPT. WE WENT THROUGH OUR LNDG CHKLIST WHILE EXPERIENCING OCCASIONALLY MODERATE TURB AND LANDED THE ACFT ON RWY 31L. AFTER LNDG AND TURNING OFF THE RWY, I NOTICED THAT WE WERE STILL ON APCH CTL FREQ AND HAD FORGOTTEN TO CONTACT TWR AT THE MARKER. I CONTACTED GND CTL AND WAS GIVEN TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO OUR GATE. NOTHING WAS MENTIONED BY ATC BUT I ASSUME THAT WE NEVER RECEIVED LNDG CLRNC.
