Narrative:
Had an large transport overtaking an small transport on final to runway 26L&right. 7110.65 paragraph 7-133 states in bold print 'do not let a large overtake a small.' I informed facility management of the possible loss of separation unless something is done. The tower called the TRACON. The TRACON refused to pull either aircraft out. Separation was lost when the large overtook the small. The tower supervisor turned the incident over to the TRACON area manager.
