Narrative:
On the ground at 49J (hilton head), I got my clearance from sav and was stated 'climb to 1200 ft, no, climb to 1500 ft, then to a heading of 030 degrees (I think this was the heading), contact approach' and so on. Remember, no direction was given to turn after departure. Got clearance to go from runway 21. (Note: prior to landing at 49J, another air carrier flight missed, twice. WX was at minimums and ride was moderate turbulence.) flaps 15 degrees takeoff. I did this to specifications. After raising flaps, I did my best to accelerate 160-180 KTS because of the heavy rain and strong turbulence. I cleared to 1500 ft then made my turn that was assigned to me. I made left turn because of uncontrolled airport. We contacted approach. We made turn toward north and climbed further. Controller (sav) said, do you know 'for obvious reasons' about the prohibited area south of the airport. We said no. He gave us the location. He was wanting to know if we 'flcs' were getting this information. We looked at our 7-8 ft of release forms and we could not find any information on the clinton prohibited area. We asked him if there was any problem. He said no. He just wanted to know if we were getting this information. The location makes it somewhat hard not to clip the prohibited area. We looked at the location of the prohibited area compared to airport location. It's real close.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR LTT CREW ALLEGED TO HAVE PERFORMED AN UNAUTH PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE. PROX OF PROHIBITED AREA.
Narrative: ON THE GND AT 49J (HILTON HEAD), I GOT MY CLRNC FROM SAV AND WAS STATED 'CLB TO 1200 FT, NO, CLB TO 1500 FT, THEN TO A HDG OF 030 DEGS (I THINK THIS WAS THE HDG), CONTACT APCH' AND SO ON. REMEMBER, NO DIRECTION WAS GIVEN TO TURN AFTER DEP. GOT CLRNC TO GO FROM RWY 21. (NOTE: PRIOR TO LNDG AT 49J, ANOTHER ACR FLT MISSED, TWICE. WX WAS AT MINIMUMS AND RIDE WAS MODERATE TURB.) FLAPS 15 DEGS TKOF. I DID THIS TO SPECS. AFTER RAISING FLAPS, I DID MY BEST TO ACCELERATE 160-180 KTS BECAUSE OF THE HVY RAIN AND STRONG TURB. I CLRED TO 1500 FT THEN MADE MY TURN THAT WAS ASSIGNED TO ME. I MADE L TURN BECAUSE OF UNCTLED ARPT. WE CONTACTED APCH. WE MADE TURN TOWARD N AND CLBED FURTHER. CTLR (SAV) SAID, DO YOU KNOW 'FOR OBVIOUS REASONS' ABOUT THE PROHIBITED AREA S OF THE ARPT. WE SAID NO. HE GAVE US THE LOCATION. HE WAS WANTING TO KNOW IF WE 'FLCS' WERE GETTING THIS INFO. WE LOOKED AT OUR 7-8 FT OF RELEASE FORMS AND WE COULD NOT FIND ANY INFO ON THE CLINTON PROHIBITED AREA. WE ASKED HIM IF THERE WAS ANY PROB. HE SAID NO. HE JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF WE WERE GETTING THIS INFO. THE LOCATION MAKES IT SOMEWHAT HARD NOT TO CLIP THE PROHIBITED AREA. WE LOOKED AT THE LOCATION OF THE PROHIBITED AREA COMPARED TO ARPT LOCATION. IT'S REAL CLOSE.
