Narrative:

On takeoff roll runway 31 lga, #3 engine would not accelerate so I aborted takeoff. As I was approaching juliet, we were told by the tower that #3 was putting out flames and smoke. I cleared the runway and parked the brakes. I told the first officer to talk to the passenger because we kept getting reports of flames. The flight engineer and I did the engine fire checklist and shot a bottle to the engine. The fire trucks arrived at almost the same time and also shot some fluid to the engine. Air carrier maintenance arrived and told us to shut down the other 2 engines and towed us to the gate. Engine fire was a tailpipe fire. Supplemental information from acn 260681: abort at approximately 30 KTS. Supplemental information from acn 260686: as we approached the taxiway we started receiving numerous calls from aircraft, tower and the cabin telling us our #3 engine was on fire. Arrived at gate and we were boarded by FAA and maintenance personnel.
