Narrative:
Aircraft took off without en route clearance, received clearance when airborne. Aircraft arrived late, crew hurried to get flight out. Received normal pushback, taxi and takeoff clearance. Once airborne, crew realized they had not received a pre departure clearance or verbal en route clearance. Maintained VFR until clearance received from sju radio. Company had not filed flight plan. Contributing factors: crew working independently to accomplish required tasks quickly. Most stations widebody transport services have pre departure clearance's and crew is no longer used to calling for clearance. No one in local tower, ground control ATC system apparently knew that crew didn't have a clearance. Suggestions: annotate computer flight plan with specific reference to pre departure clearance non pre departure clearance stations.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A WDB ACR TOOK OFF WITHOUT ENRTE CLRNC. THEY MAINTAINED VFR UNTIL THEY OBTAINED A CLRNC.
Narrative: ACFT TOOK OFF WITHOUT ENRTE CLRNC, RECEIVED CLRNC WHEN AIRBORNE. ACFT ARRIVED LATE, CREW HURRIED TO GET FLT OUT. RECEIVED NORMAL PUSHBACK, TAXI AND TKOF CLRNC. ONCE AIRBORNE, CREW REALIZED THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED A PDC OR VERBAL ENRTE CLRNC. MAINTAINED VFR UNTIL CLRNC RECEIVED FROM SJU RADIO. COMPANY HAD NOT FILED FLT PLAN. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: CREW WORKING INDEPENDENTLY TO ACCOMPLISH REQUIRED TASKS QUICKLY. MOST STATIONS WDB SVCS HAVE PDC'S AND CREW IS NO LONGER USED TO CALLING FOR CLRNC. NO ONE IN LCL TWR, GND CTL ATC SYS APPARENTLY KNEW THAT CREW DIDN'T HAVE A CLRNC. SUGGESTIONS: ANNOTATE COMPUTER FLT PLAN WITH SPECIFIC REF TO PDC NON PDC STATIONS.
