Narrative:
Flight departed psm airport at XA21 local time on aug/sat/93 and was assigned runway heading on initial ATC/IFR clearance. At about 1500 ft on runway heading we changed frequency to manchester approach on frequency 118.8 as per psm tower. When approach answered we were issued a TA at our 1 O'clock position, 2.5 mi, at 2500 ft MSL, at which point we expedited climb to 3000 ft and greater (10000 ft clearance by ATC) and saw aircraft which was not a factor. ATC then questioned our heading (runway heading as per clearance) which he said should be 270 degrees, as per tower. Both pilots do not recall such heading as per ATC. Once en route, I contacted psm ground/tower to confirm such clearance (XB26 local). She said she normally checks when she gives the heading by marking her strip, which was not marked. Hence, this confirms our runway heading as per our IFR clearance. Considerations: same controller was operating psm clearance/ground/tower and rather busy.

Title: AN LTT ACR ACFT MAINTAINED THE WRONG INTENDED HDG DURING INITIAL DEP.
Narrative: FLT DEPARTED PSM ARPT AT XA21 LCL TIME ON AUG/SAT/93 AND WAS ASSIGNED RWY HDG ON INITIAL ATC/IFR CLRNC. AT ABOUT 1500 FT ON RWY HDG WE CHANGED FREQ TO MANCHESTER APCH ON FREQ 118.8 AS PER PSM TWR. WHEN APCH ANSWERED WE WERE ISSUED A TA AT OUR 1 O'CLOCK POS, 2.5 MI, AT 2500 FT MSL, AT WHICH POINT WE EXPEDITED CLB TO 3000 FT AND GREATER (10000 FT CLRNC BY ATC) AND SAW ACFT WHICH WAS NOT A FACTOR. ATC THEN QUESTIONED OUR HDG (RWY HDG AS PER CLRNC) WHICH HE SAID SHOULD BE 270 DEGS, AS PER TWR. BOTH PLTS DO NOT RECALL SUCH HDG AS PER ATC. ONCE ENRTE, I CONTACTED PSM GND/TWR TO CONFIRM SUCH CLRNC (XB26 LCL). SHE SAID SHE NORMALLY CHKS WHEN SHE GIVES THE HDG BY MARKING HER STRIP, WHICH WAS NOT MARKED. HENCE, THIS CONFIRMS OUR RWY HDG AS PER OUR IFR CLRNC. CONSIDERATIONS: SAME CTLR WAS OPERATING PSM CLRNC/GND/TWR AND RATHER BUSY.
