Narrative:
We were cleared heading 160 degrees (base leg) descend and maintain 4000 ft. We were north of field for a right base to runway 25L. We were crossing over traffic landing runway 24R. Approaching 4000 ft we received a TA with instructions to climb. Controller said he had cleared us to 5000 ft. We were about 4800 ft when clear of traffic and then turned a slow final for visual to runway 25L. I believe, the sole problem was that the controller did not realize that he had cleared us to 4000 ft.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG ACR ACFT DSNDED BELOW ASSIGNED DSCNT ALT RESULTING IN A TCASII ALERT OF OTHER CONFLICTING TFC AND THE CTLR INTERVENING TO ISSUE EVASIVE ACTION INSTRUCTIONS TO THE RPTING ACFT.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED HDG 160 DEGS (BASE LEG) DSND AND MAINTAIN 4000 FT. WE WERE N OF FIELD FOR A R BASE TO RWY 25L. WE WERE XING OVER TFC LNDG RWY 24R. APCHING 4000 FT WE RECEIVED A TA WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO CLB. CTLR SAID HE HAD CLRED US TO 5000 FT. WE WERE ABOUT 4800 FT WHEN CLR OF TFC AND THEN TURNED A SLOW FINAL FOR VISUAL TO RWY 25L. I BELIEVE, THE SOLE PROB WAS THAT THE CTLR DID NOT REALIZE THAT HE HAD CLRED US TO 4000 FT.
