Narrative:
Ground control cleared medium large transport to cross runway 33 and call tower established on taxiway G. Due to somewhat short taxi from ramp to taxiway G to departure end of runway, I contacted tower just prior to crossing runway and indicated to the tower controller we were just getting ready to cross runway 33 and were approaching taxiway G. Tower instructed to continue and call when ready for departure. Tower then instructed us to contact ground control. Ground control informed us I was in error to contact tower so soon. By then we were on taxiway G and was told to contact tower.

Title: MLG FLC CONTACTS LCL CTLR PRIOR TO INSTRUCTIONS TO DO SO. NOT SPEAKING TO GND AS CROSS RWY.
Narrative: GND CTL CLRED MLG TO CROSS RWY 33 AND CALL TWR ESTABLISHED ON TXWY G. DUE TO SOMEWHAT SHORT TAXI FROM RAMP TO TXWY G TO DEP END OF RWY, I CONTACTED TWR JUST PRIOR TO XING RWY AND INDICATED TO THE TWR CTLR WE WERE JUST GETTING READY TO CROSS RWY 33 AND WERE APCHING TXWY G. TWR INSTRUCTED TO CONTINUE AND CALL WHEN READY FOR DEP. TWR THEN INSTRUCTED US TO CONTACT GND CTL. GND CTL INFORMED US I WAS IN ERROR TO CONTACT TWR SO SOON. BY THEN WE WERE ON TXWY G AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT TWR.
